Towards Longmarket

Towards Longmarket
(Photo 2001)

The GAP shop building on left juts out into the High Street from the development in Longmarket that happened in around 1991. A large part of the City that was rebuilt just after the war in concrete `English Brutal' style was pulled down. For that summer, there was an extended archeaological dig in this area producing many interesting finds going back to Roman times.

The Summer of 1997 saw the loss of a Canterbury landmark that was part of that '60s development: the large blue clock. The clock hadn't functioned for ages so perhaps is not a sad loss.

Anyway, the Canterbury Tour has managed to capture the building process, see the archive buttons on the right.
