Rose Lane
(Photo 1995)

The buildings either side of the Lane are post-war, the one with the pointed gable in the centre in the distance houses BHS and is more recent. The red brick building on the left at the end of the Lane was in the process of being finished when I took this photo. It clearly in Canterbury. All the new buildings are encroaching on the street, and are being pushed forward of the old building line. I am told that this is all part of an attempt to move the city streets back to pre-war lines, making them narrower. A cynic would say that pushing the building forward like this gives the developers more floor area, and so they can make more money. Who is losing? Who is gaining?

Rose Lane seems to have become a bit of a concrete jungle since 1995 when I first took a photo here. The trees don't seem to have survived.
