City Centre

We have reached the centre of the City, or at least that's what this spot feels like. Turning left takes us down narrow Mercery Lane to the Cathedral. Turning right takes us down St. Margaret's Street, past a new shopping arcade eventually ending at the Norman Castle and the East Railway station. On takes us to the rest of the High Street and into an area of the town destroyed in the Second World War, rebuilt in the 50s and 60s, and again in the 90s.

We are looking at the Boot's. The building here is 15th Century but the frontage isn't. It was reconstructed earlier this century.
